For the cause of 201 I will be informing the public on the difference between art and pornography so, hopefully, the college will be less offended by nude art and stop labeling it pornographic when it's not.
I hope to achieve this goal by use of brochures and posters, and also hopefully through this blog. I will be working with the art club primarily, seeing as they're the closest group that would advocate for this. The human body is a beautiful thing and if we as artists so choose to show this beauty, we should not have our works be grouped with porn when there is much more symbolism and beauty and creativity that goes into these works. We're not in high school anymore, we're in college, we need to stop being protected from natural beauty such as that which lies in the nude human body and genital regions.

The nude female body is the most beautiful thing on earth. I guess the male body can be beautiful, too. Society is uptight about nudity and a lot of people are quick to label anything portraying it as pornography. I agree there is a strong difference between the two. It's like comparing Playboy to Hustler. One has more of an artistic approach and the other one is vulgar and graphic. If you wanted to be extreme, you could prove your point by comparing the two magazines or something similar to them. You can take a picture of what you consider to be nudity as art and contrast it next to a picture to what you would consider pornography. You might want to dull down the porn before you show it publicly but I think it would illustrate your point. Also you can take images of nude models and compare them with images of ordinary nude people to show the aesthetic quality of the model. You are right when you say there is a lot of symbolism behind the naked body. It dates back to ancient times when people used to worship it and consider it sacred. You might want to be care though of the opposition you would face. Try to be cool about it without getting to in your face with the brochures.
ReplyDeleteI agree with fuzz lightyear, I believe people in this society are uptight about nudity. I think this is a good project to do because most people would not choose to do it. I think art of the human body is something that was once in art and now is almost blocked out of this world by the way society is. I think it would be important for people to bring it back out and inform the students and the public of the importance and the beauty which lies in it. Have you thought about doing any certian project? (You could set up some kind of art show or something) You might already be doing this but have some art students around campus come and talk to students about the importance of it.
